KEVIN WINS BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION........                                                                                                  Nigeria’s Kevin was named as the winner of M-Net’s BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION during Sunday’s stunning Finale (December 6)after a final week of voting by Africa’s audiences. The 27-year-old entertainer was chosen by the continent after outlasting 24 other housemates over 91 days in the BIG BROTHER house, to claim the massive USD 200 000 prize.

After evicting Nigerian Nkenna, Malawian Mzamo and Namibian Edward, Angola’s Emma and Nigeria’s Kevin were the final two housemates left in the REVOLUTION. After a tense wait, IK announced the name heard round the continent – Kevin! After Emma left the house and Kevin had a few moments to let the news sink in, he emerged victorious and joined IK on stage to share his joy with Africa.

“I feel like Obama!” was Kevin’s reaction to IK’s question about how it felt to win BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION. Shedding tears and waving his Nigerian flag, he said that he thought Africa had chosen him as the winner because he was born for TV. “I was made for this,” he said.

Kevin sank to his knees as M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi brought out his USD 200 000 cheque and wrote his name on it in front of him, making concrete the fact that he had won the game. Joined on stage by his family, the visibly-moved Nigerian danced and celebrated his success.

Kevin was the most popular housemate in the most countries, claiming 11 country votes (Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Rest of Africa) versus 2 for Emma (Angola & South Africa), 1 apiece for Edward (Namibia) and Mzamo (Malawi) while Nkenna couldn’t claim a victory in any of the participating countries.

The show kicked off with IK abseiling into the garden before Jozi hip hop group Fresh performed in front of a packed studio audience. The 20 evicted housemates then joined him on stage in a stunning parade of colour as they waved their national flags. After a review of the first 30 days in the house, the evicted housemates performed a special dance number paying homage Michael Jackson – as they did so successfully during their “Thriller” task.

Bow Wow then performed his first track of the evening, nearly tearing the roof off the studio! Then it was time to reduce the Big 5 to the Big 4. IK took viewers into the house before naming Nkenna as the first housemate to be evicted during the Finale. The Nigerian said her goodbyes quickly before joining IK on stage and talked about her time in the house. Unable to pick a favourite moment from her time in the house, she revealed that she cried when Elizabeth was evicted because she hadn’t believed that Africa would vote to keep her in the house. Nkenna left the house with USD2997 in her money pot, claiming 5th spot in the REVOLUTION.

In a knockout blow, IK then took viewers straight back into the house to immediately evict another housemate. After a tense pause, he announced the next name – Mzamo. The Malawian waved off the attention of her fellow finalists, telling them she would see them “just now” outside the house. Joining IK on stage, she told Africa that she hoped the continent had kept them in the game for so long because she is a genuine person.

When quizzed about her fight with Itai which saw her smash a pane of glass, she said she had grown frustrated when he wouldn’t listen to her and lashed out because she had gone past the point of crying. With that, she left and met her family on the edge of the stage, taking home USD1383 in her money pot. Bow Wow then took to the stage again, before IK headed into the house to surprise remaining housemates Edward, Emma and Kevin.

Emma declared that she felt anxious, nervous and excited. Kevin explained how he had focused on the game, saying that when he finally saw the female housemates, he immediately saw competition, rather than ‘women’. IK teased Emma about the fact that since Jeremy had been evicted, she seemed to have turned her attention to Kevin. “Kevin is my brother,” she told him. “I would love an elder brother, someone I can talk to about anything – Jeremy and Kevin are totally different and have totally different places in my heart.”

IK asked Edward who he thought shouldn’t have been in the final 5 with him. “Geraldine should have been in and not Emma,” he said, before agreeing with IK that he had no beef with the Angolan. Emma said that she would have preferred to have shared the final week with Paloma, Geraldine and Jeremy. Kevin still felt that he stood a chance with Elizabeth, but told Africa that he would be respectful of the fact that she is in a relationship outside of the house.

Edward told IK that he assumed the role of the resident prankster after sizing up the ‘prank potential’ of the other housemates and deciding he could have more fun.

After departing the house, IK had more business to conclude – the eviction of the 23rd housemate. After accepting the verified envelope from the Alexander Forbes representative, he announced that Edward would be the next housemate to leave the REVOLUTION.

Joining IK on stage, Edward talked about how much fun it was to be part of the unique Twin Twist. He declared that he had no regrets about any of his ‘save & replace’ decisions as Head of House. “No regrets whatsoever,” he said. “The show wasn’t about the money for me – it was about having fun.” Edward departed the stage – and the game – with USD2757 in his money pot.

The big moment had then arrived. Accepting the envelope from the auditor for the final time, IK turned to camera and announced to the waiting pair – and the continent – that Kevin was the winner of BIG BROTHER REVOLUTION.

“I told you, I told you!” said Emma, hugging the overwhelmed Nigerian. After sharing his joy, she left the house and joined IK on stage. Once outside, she told IK that she had told Kevin during the afternoon that he was going to take the money home. She left the stage with USD2998 in her money pot and joined her family.

After Kevin joined IK on stage and received his cheque, they pulled the plug on the REVOLUTION together – leaving the house in darkness as Kevin celebrated his success with the continent. Now with the Revolution ended, fans can relive the magic of the last 91 days by visiting www.mnetafrica.com/bigbrother for video, to chat with other fans and to read the stories about this most recent season of Big Brother Africa.

P
The battle for recruitment @ the emirates.......                                                                                                                  ARSENAL will be seeking new players in the January transfer window because of Robin van Persie's long-term injury, manager Arsene Wenger said on Tuesday.

Wenger had said earlier that he was unlikely to spend and was happy with the squad but losing the Dutch striker for four to five months with an ankle injury has changed his thinking.

"I didn't feel we were in the need to buy anybody but we will be out on the market that is for sure now," he told the Arsenal website (www.arsenal.com). "However we will only make a decision if it suits us."

Arsenal are fourth overall and 11 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League, although with a game in hand, after losing to the leaders 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.

The Dutchman, who had scored eight goals in his last 11 matches for Arsenal, was injured in a friendly between Netherlands and Italy last month after landing badly following a tackle.

The North London club have also lost England under-21 fullback Kieran Gibbs for three months after he broke a bone in his left foot last month, while Danish forward Nicklas Bendtner is recovering from groin surgery.

The Storm boss was said to have gathered few close friends at his Lekki, Lagos residence, invited a registrar and had a quiet ceremony.

“We just wanted a very quiet ceremony” He said “The most important people are the people involved and I have lived with my wife for over two years and we have been happy together. What just happened was a formalization and legalization of the union. I wanted her to be called my wife.”

Congrats and the very best of luck.
FEMI KUTI GETS GRAMMY NOMINATION........                                                                                                                            Femi Kuti has been nominated for the 2010 Grammy awards in the category of Best Contemporary World Music for his album, Day by Day alongside Malian Oumu Sangare, Amadou and Mariam, Bela Fleck of the USA and Omar NOsa of Cuba. This is his second nomination. He was first nominated in 2003 for his album Fight to Win.

“I was shocked and surprised when I heard” Femi said “It was something I least expected or even thought about it. I was even worried about my generator that broke down at The Shrine. They had just given us high quotation. There was no light. So, I was just complaining about the whole situation and then a text came in. I was very happy and excited. So the Grammy people are listening to my works, so they have nominated me? That’s good. I am very happy"

He deserves it! Congrats!......
HOW WICKED THE WORLD HAS BECOME.........                                                                                                                            Veronica Deramous had told her boyfriend and family she was pregnant. She held her 29-year-old victim hostage for five days at her apartment in Washington after befriending her at a nearby homeless hostel and lured her to her flat by promising to give her baby clothes.

She tied her up and sliced open her stomach to try to remove the child, using a box cutter and some razor blades, police said. Deramous allegedly gagged her victim, turned up the volume on her TV, and told her: "You're strong, you can handle what I'm going to do to you."

Her victim then managed to escape after Deramous, 40, fell asleep. A neighbour called police after spotting the woman covered in blood in a car park.

Doctors delivered her baby girl by emergency Caesarean section. The victim is expected to make a full recovery and her child has been named Miracle Sky.

She has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and false imprisonment.
JACOB ZUMA STIRS UP ANGER.............                                                                                                                    Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa, has prompted anger with a reported R65m (£5.3m) expansion of his personal residence in one of the country's poorest regions.

Zuma's rural homestead will gain a police station, helipad, military clinic, visitors' centre, parking lot for 40 vehicles and three houses, according to South Africa's Mail & Guardian newspaper, which claimed taxpayers would foot "the largest chunk of the bill".

New houses are apparently being built to accommodate Zuma's three wives, the paper said. Critics accused the president of "conspicuous consumption in the face of dire poverty".

The rural family homestead is in Nkandla, in KwaZulu-Natal province, where many of Zuma's neighbours lack electricity or running water. Official figures show that more than half of KwaZulu-Natal's 10 million population live in poverty, with 1.2 million surviving on less than R200 (£16) a month. Sources told the paper that the expansion will cost an estimated R65m.

A Russian, an American, and a blonde were talking one day.

The Russian said, "We were the first in space!"

The American said, "We were the first on the moon!"

The blonde said, "So what? We're going to be the first on the sun!"

The Russian and the American looked at each other and shook their heads. "You can't land on the sun, you idiot! You'll burn up!" said the Russian.

The blonde replied, "We're not stupid, you know. We're going at night!"

A WORLD OF CHANGE.....
A police officer, though scheduled for all-night duty at the station, was relieved of duty early and arrived home four hours ahead of schedule, at 2 in the morning.
Not wanting to wake his wife, he undressed in the dark, crept into the bedroom and started to climb into bed. Just then, his wife "sleepily" sat up and said,

"Honey, would you go down to the all-night drug store on the next block and get me some aspirin? I've got a splitting headache."

"Certainly, honey," he said. Feeling his way across the dark room, he got dressed and walked over to the drug store. As he arrived, the pharmacist looked up in surprise,

"Say," said the pharmacist, "I know you - aren't you a policeman? Officer Fenwick, right?"

"Yeah, sure. So?" said the officer.

"Well, what the heck are you doing all dressed up like the Fire Chief?"

A JOKE...... ITS A WOERLD OG CHANGE..

Divorce...

An elderly man in Miami calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are getting divorced. Forty-five years of misery is enough."
"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her," and he hangs up.

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone, "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls her father immediately and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting divorced! Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME!?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "They're coming for Christmas and paying thier own airfares.

NIGERIA - Exploration History.
Publication: APS Review Gas Market Trends
Date: Monday, August 2 1999

You are viewing page 1
It was in 1908 that a German company, Nigerian Bitumen Corp., began exploring for oil in Nigeria. It operated in the Araromi area, of the present Ondo State, 200 km east of Lagos. The company abandoned its dry, shallow wells there at the start of World War I in 1914. In 1936, Shell D'Arcy was

granted sole rights to explore for hydrocarbons all over Nigeria and prospecting began in 1937. Shell's activities were interrupted by World War II.

Less than two years after World War II ended, Shell in 1947 teamed up with British Petroleum to form a Shell-BP unit in Nigeria. The group discovered oil in 1956 at Oloibiri in the Niger Delta, and production began in 1958 at the rate of 5,100 b/d which was mostly exported. The group realised later that pay zones lay below 1,500 metres. As Nigeria gained independence in 1960, a new government in Lagos limited the group's concession area and invited other companies to explore for oil. They were offered both onshore and offshore blocks.

By 1961, Mobil, Agip, Gulf Oil (now Chevron), Safrap (now Elf), Amoseas (now Texaco/Chevron), Tenneco and others had begun exploration activities both onshore and offshore. Most of them were later to be more successful in offshore areas, while the Shell group had the best onshore fields. The pace of oil discoveries picked up in the subsequent years. Eventually, however, BP left Nigeria and Shell teamed up with other companies (see profiles in Part 2). BP returned to Nigeria 15 years later, in 1993, and signed with Statoil for PSAs to explore deep-water prospects (see above).

A former colony, then a British protectorate from 1914, Nigeria gained its independence from Britain on Oct. 1, 1960. But the Eastern Region seceded on May 30, 1967, leading to a civil war. The self-proclaimed Republic of Biafra was crushed in early 1970. In 1971, as oil became more important to the economy, the state established the Nigerian National Oil Corp. (NNOC) and joined OPEC as the 11th member. It acquired 33 1/3% in Nigerian Agip and 35% in Elf. NNOC ran as an upstream and downstream company and the petroleum ministry had a regulatory function. On April 1, 1977, a merger between NNOC and the ministry created Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC). This was to combine the ministry's regulatory role and NNOC's commercial functions: exploration, production, transportation, processing, oil refining and marketing.

The regulatory role was later to be assumed by the Petroleum Inspectorate, a unit of NNPC. But decision makers at NNPC have changed frequently as there have been seven military coups from 1960 to Gen. Abacha's takeover in November 1993, with the only civilian regimes being the Second Republic in 1979-83 and the current one since May 29, 1999. In particular after 1972, every new military ruler wanted to control the oil sector and NNPC's management was affected in one way or another.

Through the years, NNPC has been active in seismic exploration onshore and offshore. Its seismic crew, known as Party X, has made several discoveries such as a field in block OPL-110 in the Niger Delta, the Oredo field, etc. It also carried out work on contract for Phillips Petroleum and other E&P companies in the Chad, Anambra and Benue Basins. But NNPC has depended on the technological capabilities of the major operators, like Shell, Mobil, Gulf (Chevron) and others, which produced the bulk of Nigerian oil and did most of the exploration work.

THE POWER OF LOVE......

Love, like a river, will cut a new path
whenever it meets an obstacle.

FROM THE DEPTH OF MY HEART....

A Special World

A special world for you and me
A special bond one cannot see
It wraps us up in its cocoon
And holds us fiercely in its womb.

Its fingers spread like fine spun gold
Gently nestling us to the fold
Like silken thread it holds us fast
Bonds like this are meant to last.

And though at times a thread may break
A new one forms in its wake
To bind us closer and keep us strong
In a special world, where we belong.

THE BEGINNING OF BETTER THINGS TO COME @THE EMIRATES..........

Arsenal chairman Hill-Wood would welcome Kroenke takeover
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood says he would welcome a full-blown takeover by Stan Kroenke.
Kroenke is Arsenal's major shareholder having increased his stake to 28.9 per cent on Thursday, leaving him ahead of Usmanov, who holds around 25 per cent.
The American is now just one per cent short of the 29.9 per cent figure which, under British law, means he must make a mandatory offer for the remaining shares in the company.
Hill-Wood, who himself owns less than one per cent, has now welcomed Kroenke's increasingly active interest in the club.
"It does look like he is edging towards a takeover, which I would welcome," Hill-Wood told RAYWEEZY......
"I have not asked him if that is what he plans to do, but I am very relaxed about it.
"If it was to happen, I don't think you can expect any big changes because he seems to like things very much the way they are."

10 Steps to Create a High-Quality Website
on the, oct 16 2009.
This entry is filed under Web Development, Accessibility, Usability, Marketing, Design.
A valuable offer of information does not fall from the sky and it is impossible to gather it in a few easy clicks. No. What you need are goals, content, structure, design, programming and maintenance. What you need is expertise – constantly. This article outlines – without attempting to be comprehensive – the ten most important steps to create a good website. A checklist to be collected and shared.

Quality Assurance
Commitment
If you don’t sincerely want to create a website and don’t intend to maintain it: Please don’t even start.
A high-quality website requires a lot of commitment and effort. Good content requires a lot of commitment and effort. Your users and visitors demand commitment and effort. A website can be compared to a pet – think about whether you really want one before you get one. (But you are right, pets that are not treated well certainly hurt much more.)
Planning
So you have decided that you really want a website and that this website should really be of an acceptable standard. What you need to do now is a plan:
What is the goal of your website?
What is the target audience of your website?
What content do you intend to offer?
Which key data and metrics will you use to determine your success? (Determine your key performance indicators.)
If you are unsure about how to answer some of these questions, if you are in any doubts or even fail to find an answer to one of the questions, you probably need a break. Or you could try to seek for help regarding your decisions. Your website won’t mind the wait.
Information Architecture
After the planning phase has been completed, don’t immediately start designing and implementing: First, you need to create, test, verify, and reconsider the structure and architecture of your site. To do this, read a good book about information architecture, look at a few heuristics and have at least 15 users do some card-sorting. Even at this early stage, don’t forget to keep an eye on localization and internationalization. Document the structure you have elaborated and validate it – by testing it while you are designing the website.
Design
Hurray, Design. Important:
Design is a set of fields for problem-solving that uses user-centric approaches to understand user needs (as well as business, economic, environmental, social, and other requirements) to create successful solutions that solve real problems. Design is often used as a process to create real change within a system or market. Too often, Design is defined only as visual problem solving or communication because of the predominance of graphic designers. In other fields and contexts, Design might only refer to Fashion Design or Interior Design. However, a recognition of the similarities between all design disciplines shows that the larger definition for Design operates at a higher level and across many media
Consider a few additional points before you start the design process:
It doesn’t hurt to have a look at a few principles, whether specific ones by Tufte or Tognazzini or abstract ones like the golden ratio or wabi-sabi.
It is essential to keep accessibility in mind, even during the design phase. It is easy to address color blindness, photosensitive epilepsy or sufficient contrast during this stage.
Test your drafts (don’t wait until the final version). Carry out tests, whether with five users, with more than five because that’s not enough, with n users, just as long as it is cheap, or with none because you place your trust in experts. Test and read through basic rules about usability.
Be creative, but not “without control!”
Programming
After completing the design process, which should have led to a well operating design, you can now start the implementation. (It is, however, possible, that you start this at an earlier stage already.) In addition to environment (server) and dynamics (script languages), you need to consider the following points:
Choose a suitable document type for your documents. If in any doubt, be inspired by Jeffrey Zeldman or Eric Meyer. If this doesn’t help you – just use any valid document type.
Use HTML elements according to their semantics.
Write structured code and get used to coding guidelines. This is particularly important if more than one person are working on the project.
Validate. Everything. Consider it as a taboo to publish documents and style sheets that haven’t been validated.
Whatever you do, always keep accessibility in mind. Accessibility heuristics can be useful, but unfortunately they are not comprehensive.
Quality Assurance
After having worked out an elaborate, high-quality information offer on the basis of the aforementioned points, you should still absolutely and definitely carry out Quality Assurance (QA). The launch of your offer is part of this phase, ideally after a final QA. It may be possible to launch your website immediately after having carried out the QA, but only if you have focused on quality from the beginning.
Control and optimize the following:
Technical validity and compliance of all resources.
Accessibility, ideally with the help of real users, but automated tests can be useful as well.
Links. Linkrot has never been fashionable.
Load time.
Just about everything. Your website should stand for quality and value-added user experience. Make sure that you’ve got it.
Public Relations
Market your website without feeling guilty. Your HTML should already be suitable for search engines (semantics and accessibility). Use a moderate link strategy from this point on and perform conventional Public Relations (PR). I know, this is easy to be said, but it has to be done. Furthermore, don’t get upset if your website doesn’t have great success from the very beginning, such as ten times more users accessing the site – plan on a long-term basis.
Success Control
Make sure that the “key performance indicators” (KPI) you determined at the beginning are measured. If your existing statistics don’t determine these numbers, ensure that they do. There are some useful statistics tools: A few good ones are free of charge (Google Analytics), only fractionally more good inexpensive ones (Mint), and a handful of good expensive ones (WebSideStory). Use these metrics to evaluate the development and the success of your offer.
This hint unfortunately won’t be of much use if you have never before had a good look at web analytics. It is time to do this now.
Maintenance
Maintain your website. Update your website. Look after your website. Add new content on a regular basis. Furthermore, check old content. You need to proofread new and old content. Never cease to question your offer. At the end of the day, it is once more all about …
Quality Assurance
That’s right, quality assurance is a process. Keep validating, checking, and testing your documents, contents, and design … again and again.
